Controls for Solar Security Lighting

Posted by Marylou Biederman in Lighting

There are several limitations that have kept everyone from choosing solar lights over their traditional wired lighting solutions. The primary concern is in the level of power available to keep a bright enough lamp light for as long as it is needed before a recharge is necessary. With new LED bulbs that burn a lot less hot than traditional bulbs, there is a solar security light that can cast a very strong flood light to deter any would-be intruders without draining the battery.

There are also other ways that a solar security light can be adjusted to control the amount of energy consumed for the duration of the night. But the first important factor to keep in mind is installing the solar panel in an area that will expose the panels to as much direct sun light as possible.

Some models might offer a longer wire to connect the battery pack and the rest of the unit with the solar panel. This allows the unit to be installed where it is best needed while allowing the solar panel to be positioned on a roof top or elsewhere that provides sufficient sun exposure.

To conserve precious battery charge, the solar security light is only turned on when triggered by the motion detector. This provides a lot of ways to make the most of the light and when it is turned on and is important because the high intensity beam uses a lot of energy.

There are settings that allow the owner to control how sensitive the motion sensor is so that a small item like a leaf blowing in the wind does not trigger the light. There is also a range to focus on so that you set how far and wide of a scope you want the detector to focus on.
