Deciding whether to Use Flat Roof Construction

Posted by Marylou Biederman in Uncategorized

Every year many homeowners think about whether they should choose pitched or flat roof construction for their homes. Both have different strengths and should be considered carefully. One major issue to consider is the weather in your local area. If frequent heavy rainfall is common then a flat roof will likely be damaged quickly. This will often be caused by pooling water collecting on the surface and eventually leaking through the roof. This water can also freeze in cold temperatures and cause structural damage.

You should spend a substantial amount of time calculating the long term maintenance and repair costs of owning flat roof materials. They will typically not last as long as many pitched roofs and will be damaged a lot more easily in a heavy storm. It is a good idea to speak to homeowners in your area who have chosen flat roofs and ask if you location is likely to cause trouble for flat roof owners.

This is mainly due to the roof absorbing a lot of heat from the sun in warm conditions. There may also be security issues for your home as a flat roof will usually be easier to break into than a pitched on will be.

You will often to be able to save considerable amounts of money when installing a roof if you choose a flat one. This option will however not make financial sense a lot of the time because the long term expenses will be too great. Some homes are best suited to flat roof but the majority are not. You should be certain which choice is best for your property before installation begins.
