Garden Urns: For Decorative Gardens

Posted by Joshua in Garden

Gardeners are experts in their profession, knowing what plants should go in their gardens, how much water to give their flowers, how deep they should dig into the ground, how to direct sunlight onto their gardens, and, possibly the most original, how to decorate their gardens in a unique and creative way. Most people who do not own a garden, or even those people who own a tiny one, imagine gardens as areas containing weeds, shrubs, vegetables, fruits, and flowers. “There’s a tomato for a fajita over in this patch.”, or, “Here’s a pretty rose for my wife.” are thoughts that come to mind when a person envisions a garden’s scenery. Gardens, as die-hard gardeners already know, require much more than plants, though; they require wide paths and decorations, like garden urns, that liven the atmosphere around them. Thus, gardens are areas that not only foster plants, but also shine with creativity, done at the intense dedication of an expert gardener.

Garden urns themselves are one piece of decoration that a person may add to his garden in order to vivify the surroundings. Broadly defined, these are huge vases that are placed on a pedestal in one’s garden; these vases can be filled with many things, including soil for growing plants, fake flowers as decorations, or unique items to add flavor to the garden (e.g., straw, small dolls like scarecrows or snowmen, etc.). Many people, for example, will take their urns and fill them with a vast amount of water so that they can attract wild birds; attracting birds to a garden livens the environment even more! Other individuals, especially dedicated gardeners, take their urns and fill them with ashes of their loved ones. For example, a wife may place her husband’s remains inside of a large garden urn, seal the top, and place it in the garden where she toils often. Thus, urns have many uses, and it is totally up the gardener himself or herself to choose how to use them.

Fortunately for gardeners, urns come in many sizes and forms. The majority of urns are made of clay, but some people are able to find them created from iron or bronze. Oddly enough, a few types are even oval and slender in shape; however, it does not matter if it looks bizarre to the average person- it is all about how well it fits into the scenery of the garden. Remember that, when selecting what type of urn to get, gaze at your garden from a distance. Envision what is lacking in color, size, necessity, and shape. After that, make a trip up to a local gardening store and find the right trinket for your garden.

Garden UrnsPerhaps you decided you wanted to fill your urn with plants of some sort. Well, what are the best types with which to fill your vase? Before answering this question, make sure you do want to fill the urns- some look great without anything in them. If you decide to fill them, though, here are some flowers with which people choose to fill their urns: a sunflower, a batch of violet-colored flowers, or a red rose. It does not really matter what type of flower you put into your urn, though; what does mater is that it brings diversity. For example, small flowers that may go unnoticed in a garden have a chance to shine in the urns. Some people choose to grow herbs inside their urns, too. For example, herb beds can enhance the vivacity of your garden even more because they have a large variety of scents, and they can form in beautiful bouquets. Fortunately, too, herbs are easy to grow in urns, much easier than flowers, for example. You may need to experiment a bit by testing different plants inside of the vases, looking from a far ways back, and seeing how they fit into the overall quality of the garden. While experimenting, try to envision a common theme for your garden, making sure to take into account the decorations (e.g., urns); perhaps you could make the garden more rustic, or you could go for Mediterranean attire. The fairy tale gardens shown in millionaire’s yards can be yours with a little mind bending and effort; however, it is important to select the best decorations to fit these gardens, and one piece that spices up gardens more than others is a garden urn or two.
