Getting the Most Out of Your Floor Buffer
Posted by Marylou Biederman in Flooring
The workload that a buffer does has a direct impact on how often one should considering having it serviced. Consider placing your buffer on its own service plan by taking it for a check over every 300 hours. On average this should be one a year for a buffer used for an hour a day on working days. The following routine checks should be done before, whilst and after using a floor buffer. These are not only important for safety. They will result in prolonged service delivery by this piece of equipment.
- Prior to working it is important to check the power cable and plug to ensure the wires have not pulled loose or that the cord has not become worn.
- When attaching the cleaning pad to the buffer ensure all studs loosen and fasten with ease, tighten studs in an anticlockwise direction (right to left) this will lock the pad in place.
- Get to know the sound of your buffer whilst on, the change in sound of a running motor could be considered a warning that not all is well, and having it seen to sooner could save you a considerate amount of money in repair or replacement fees.
- Always remove and clean pads once finished working. Leaving pads in the machine will not only damage the pads, damp or dirty pads could have a significant effect in shortening the lifespan of your buffer.
- Clean you buffer regularly as strippers and cleaning fluids collect on the sides and lower parts of the buffer, this could result in a shortened lifespan of your machine.
- Use only chemicals and cleaning stuffs suitable for use with buffers. Read all labels to ensure this. Using incorrect cleaning stuffs could not only cause damage the machine. Incorrect cleaning stuffs could shorten the lifespan of your cleaning pads as well.
- Clean your cleaning pads after every use. This not only extends their working life it will ensure the best cleaning results are achieved.
- Whilst in use, turn over the cleaning pad from time to time, this prevents the pad from overheating and will also increase the lifespan of the pad.
- Store you machine in an uptight position, with the pads neatly hung up, never store your machine with the cleaning pads still attached
Taking good care of your floor buffers and polishers will result in years of trouble free service.
