Consider A Glass Block For Your Walk In Shower

Most people, when they picture a walk in shower, picture lots of glass. The first image that may spring to mind is one of a small cube with four glass walls and gold or chrome joints. However, there are many styles of walk in showers, many of them created with glass block rather than glass panes. There are a few good reasons to consider building your own walk in shower this way.

First, it is much easier to create a curved wall with glass blocks that panes of glass. While a curved wall can be built out of one sheet of glass, the process and delivery is very costly. If, instead, you choose to form a wall with blocks, you can easily create curves and shapes that would otherwise be very difficult with a solid sheet of glass.

Second, glass blocks come with many patterns and colors, but all provide a semi clear look. This is perfect for a walk in shower in a bathroom where you want more privacy. In some modern designs for small homes, like a studio apartment, a glass block wall is both part of the shower and part of the bedroom. While this design is a great way to save space, using a pane of glass in this case would hardly provide any privacy at all, except perhaps when steamy.

Finally, a good reason to use glass blocks is that they can be used to create partial walls. Some designs of walk in showers have a half tile wall with glass above. However, not all design themes involve straight edges. If you want an open entrance to your walk in shower, glass block can provide an interesting stair step like pattern at the shower entrance. Glass block can also easily form a half wall, which may be all you need to separate a large open shower from the toilet space in your bathroom.

As you can see, there are several advantages to using glass block to create your walk in shower over using solid panes of glass. Of course many looks would be better with glass panes, but knowing what can be done with glass blocks many open up other designs you hadn’t even thought of. So, as you plan your bathroom remodel, remember to consider glass blocks for the walls of your walk in shower.
