Planning To Remodel Your Garage? You Need To Lay Down Concrete Garage Sealer!
Posted by Marylou Biederman in Garage, Renovation
As the title states, if you’re planning to remodel or renovate your concrete garage any time soon, you’re going to have to make sure that you have taken adequate steps to both prime the garage floor, as well as seal it from any potential humidity or other damage. Doing this doesn’t take a lot of time, or money, but will go a long way towards helping you enjoy your remodeled project for many years to come, rather than having everything start showing it’s age a lot sooner than it should.
Whether you are planning to keep the bare garage floor, or you are intending to lay down new flooring, such as tile or wood floors, you’re going to want to seal it before you do anything else. Laying down a sealer will help protect the concrete and any extra flooring from humidity buildup, which can cause concrete to crack over years of use. It also helps to prime the surface, and give floor paint a porous surface to adhere to. By doing this, you are going to be able to let any worries go, of having the floor buckle or crack once you’ve laid tile or wood down.
You have to make sure that the surface is clear of any stains or debris. This is especially true if you have parked your vehicles inside the garage, or used it as a storage area for many years. These situations allow chemicals, and other films to buildup on the concrete floor, which, if you were to lay down the sealer over them, would cause it to fail in certain spots. Anywhere chemicals have landed on your concrete will create a slick surface, which prevents the concrete garage sealer from working properly. To avoid this, simply use a cleaning agent designed for concrete floors, as well as sweeping off all of the debris and dust multiple times.
