Safety Sense: Motion Sensor Lights

Living alone can be an intimidating experience, and wherever a person feels unsafe, installing motion sensor lights can be a quality addition. Easily installed, these light turn on whenever something moves, illuminating a wide area and revealing exactly what is lurking around a person’s door. Purchasing these lights does not have to be expensive, but it is helpful to have an idea of what one is looking for prior to finding themselves staring down thirty different models in aisle seven of the hardware store.
For example, Dr. Leonard produces a simple, cordless light that has a twenty foot range; it retails for only $4. A larger, two-bulb model, the HEATH/ZENITH SL-5408-GR sells for $10 but has only a slightly increased range. However, for $15, the same brand offers a 60 foot models that include 110 degree coverage, a nice selection for home use. And if a person is concerned about installation, the Heath Zenith Screw-In Module Motion Sensor Light offers simple, plug-in, corded protection with a slightly decreased range. In a little higher price range, the Twin Bronze SL-5512-BZ-B can give 150 watt brightness from two bulbs for about $40. And for around this range, Hampton Bay offers several models that have more of a “porch light” appearance, giving off less of a secured fortress vibe for those worried about appearance. Designers Fountain also has more ornate models from $40 to $150.
Any of these are fashionable choices. And if all of this is too much, then there are many kinds of motion sensor night lights. Some are LED, others are more like traditional night light. Still others are disk-like and fit onto the ceiling! These can be easily places in any indoor (and some outdoor) outlets to detect movement and illuminate footsteps.
